What Site Clearance Involves

Site clearance is not simply cutting everything down. It requires a clear understanding of which trees and vegetation can be removed, which must be retained or protected, and what consents are needed before work begins.

What we clear

  • Trees of all sizes β€” from saplings to mature specimens requiring sectional dismantling
  • Shrubs, bramble, scrub and undergrowth
  • Hedges and hedge lines (subject to bird nesting season restrictions)
  • Stumps β€” ground out well below finished ground level
  • Arisings chipped, composted or removed from site
  • Site left clear and level ready for the next phase of work

Before we start

  • Check all trees on site for TPO status and conservation area designation
  • Submit Section 211 notifications or TPO applications where required
  • Confirm nesting bird season position (hedges and scrub, March–August)
  • Where a BS 5837 tree survey is required for planning, we can arrange this
  • Agree retained tree protection measures where trees are to be kept
  • Confirm waste carrier documentation and disposal route

Frequently Asked Questions

You don’t need planning permission to remove most trees and vegetation, but TPO-protected trees and trees in conservation areas require prior notification or consent from the local planning authority. We carry out a full TPO and conservation area check before any site clearance work begins and handle all required notifications on your behalf.

Hedgerows and scrub should not be cut between 1 March and 31 August due to the risk of disturbing nesting birds under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. We will advise you on timing and, where site clearance is time-sensitive, can schedule vegetation clearance for the appropriate season or arrange a nesting bird survey where urgency requires earlier work.

Yes. We hold a waste carrier licence and all timber, brash and green waste is removed from site legally. We can arrange chipping on site to reduce haulage where appropriate. We provide waste transfer documentation on request.

Yes β€” we’re experienced at working within a wider construction programme. We can provide RAMS, insurance certificates and waste documentation required by principal contractors, and we’ll co-ordinate with your project manager on sequencing and programme. See our property developers page for more on how we work with construction teams.
