Reclaim Your Garden

A stump left behind is space โ€” and time โ€” wasted

Once a tree is gone, the stump that’s left can be a trip hazard, a foothold for pests and fungus, and a stubborn obstacle to replanting or landscaping. Grinding removes it neatly, with none of the upheaval of digging it out by hand.

โš ๏ธ

Remove trip hazards

A hidden stump in the lawn is an accident waiting to happen. Grinding takes it safely below the surface.

๐ŸŒฑ

Stop regrowth

Many species send up suckers and shoots from a live stump. Grinding ends the regrowth for good.

๐Ÿ„

Deter pests & fungus

Rotting stumps attract honey fungus, beetles and other pests that can spread to healthy plants.

๐ŸŒณ

Replant the spot

Clear the ground so you can plant a new tree, lay turf, or build over the area with confidence.

๐Ÿšœ

Easier maintenance

No more mowing and strimming around an awkward obstacle every single time.

โœจ

A tidier garden

A clean, level surface simply looks better โ€” and lifts the whole feel of the space.

How It Works

From quote to clear ground in five simple steps

1

Free site visit

We assess the stump, the access and any obstacles, and give you a clear, no-obligation price.

2

Protect the area

We check for buried services and set up guards to keep chippings and the surrounding area safe.

3

Grind it down

Our grinder reduces the stump and the main roots to well below ground level.

4

Backfill or remove

We backfill the hole with the mulch produced, or take the arisings away โ€” your choice.

5

Leave it clean

We rake over and tidy up, leaving the area level and ready for whatever’s next.

Grinding vs. digging out โ€” which is right?

For the vast majority of gardens, grinding is the better option. It’s faster, cheaper and far less disruptive than excavating a whole stump and root system by hand or machine โ€” and it leaves your garden intact.

  • No large excavation, so no churned-up lawn or borders
  • Quicker and more cost-effective than a full dig-out
  • Grinds the visible stump and main surface roots
  • The mulch can be reused to backfill the hole

If you need the ground fully clear of roots for a building project, we’ll talk you through full removal too. Often paired with our tree removal service.

Stump grinding questions, answered

It depends on the size of the stump, how many there are, and how easy the access is. We always give a free, no-obligation quote after a quick look โ€” there are no hidden extras.

Typically we grind to around 15โ€“30cm below ground level, which is enough for turf, landscaping or replanting. We can go deeper if your plans need it โ€” just let us know.

Yes. Once the stump is ground out and the woodchip cleared, the spot is ready for replanting. For a new tree in the exact position, we’d recommend removing the mulch and topping up with fresh soil.

Whichever you prefer. We can backfill the hole with the mulch produced, or remove it entirely as a licensed waste carrier and leave the area clean.

Most domestic stumps are done within a couple of hours. Larger or multiple stumps take longer โ€” we’ll give you a clear idea when we quote.

Usually not โ€” but if the tree was protected by a Tree Preservation Order or sits in a Conservation Area, restrictions can still apply. We’ll always check for you first.
